Vietnam Veterans of America

Pinellas County Chapter 522

“Five Double Deuce”

“Never again will one generation of veterans abandon another.”

Welcome Home

Chapter 522 (“Five Double Deuce”) has been extremely fortunate to receive a number of awards in recent years. These awards would not have been possible without the hard work and dedication shown by our members. We are a relatively small chapter in terms of membership, but we have a core group of individuals who are always willing to put forth their time and energy to complete projects, to participate in fund-raising events, and to support veterans in need of assistance. We are also blessed with AVVA members who share your vision and participate in all our activities.

Our chapter is still in the process of consolidating this information into a format that properly reflects upon our accomplishments. The first step in the effort is to accurately describe the awards and recognitions by Chapter 522. Where possible, we are trying to provide pictures of the awards and the presentation of the awards. We would like to establish a standard format to display the awards on our website. Currently this is a work-in-progress with many holes still to be filled.

Based on our current research and historical work in this area, we decided to provide three sub-topics related to Chapter 522 awards. They are:

1.  Awards received from our national organization (Vietnam Veterans of America, Inc.) as well as awards from our state organization (VVA Florida State Council).

2. Awards and special recognitions received from other military-related organizations outside of the Vietnam Veterans of America hierarchy. Unfortunately, we currently do not have a designated historian for our chapter. Capturing and recording information from the start-up of our chapter in 1990 has not been an easy task. However, our goal is to continue to research our achieves to identify accomplishments as time permits. We intend to add more information to this area in the future.

3. Awards and special recognitions from non-military organizations. This category, like item 2 above, requires some research and sorting through old chapter records. This category is also classified as work-in-progress. Information will be updated as we find additional historical documents.

Pictures of awards will be uploaded to out website as we continue to develop this section.
